Japanese language in Finland

Yesterday I attended to the opening day of the four day seminar about Japanese language in Finland. It is organised by the University of Helsinki with funding from the Sasakawa Foundation.

Most interesting point that came up was that the need for qualified Japanese language and culture teachers is increasing because the modern Japanese culture is becoming more and more trendy in Finland.

As a side product of the seminar, the project produced a book of the same subject, containing plenty of interviews from many related people whom all share the common but vastly different connection to the Japanese culture and its language.

Yet again I reminded myself of the importance to study more of this language. Seems I always keep postponing the initiation…

I must mention what attracted me to participate in this event was that Eva Alkulaplayed in the opening key, in addition to the obvious interest in the Japanese language and culture.
